The advantages of LED lights and where you can use them

Are you thinking about upgrading your home’s lighting? Light-Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs offer significant advantages over CFLs and incandescent lights. In fact, if you’ve already switched your home to CFLs, you’re probably using four times less energy to light your home than when you were using incandescent. Switching to LEDs can save you an additional 20 to 25 percent. For example, if you install a 16.5 Watt LED, it’s the equivalent of a 20 Watt CFL and a 75 Watt incandescent bulb, according to Green America. Let’s learn more about the benefits of LED lights and where our electrician can install them in your home.

Benefits of Installing LED Lights

LED lights offer significant advantages over other types of light bulbs. They are behavioral in a multitude of colors, and they don’t have any IR or UV emissions.

1. Directional Lighting Control

LED light bulbs are extremely small, about the size of an unground peppercorn. This means that there are several LED lights per light bulb, and they are mounted on a flat surface. Since they are mounted on flat surfaces, they offer better directional control for the light.

2. Long Lifespans

LED lights typically offer between 30,000 and 50,000 hours of light, and they do not completely fail as they get older. They simply dim. By comparison, incandescent bulbs only lasted about 1,000 hours, and CFLs typically only last 10,000 hours. This means that you’ll have to change your LED lights less often.

3. Works Well in Cold Temperatures

LED lights perform better in cold temperatures than incandescent or CFL bulbs. This means they work great in refrigerators, freezers and outdoors.

4. Full Brightness Immediately

You won’t have to wait for your LED light to warm up like you do a CFL. Instead, LED lights are at full power the minute you flip the switch.

5. No Heat Output

LED lights are not hot. This means that all the electricity used by the bulb is to create light, instead of light and heat.

6. Dimmable and Smart Options

LED bulbs are more easily dimmed than CFLs and incandescent and the dimming is smooth. You can also purchase LED SMART bulbs which can be controlled with your phone or a compatible smart home device.

Where Can You Install LED Lights?

LED lights can be installed anywhere where you have CFL or incandescent bulbs, including in kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and living rooms. You can even purchase them as floodlights to illuminate the outside of your home at night. This is because they are available in the same socket sizes as your traditional light bulbs, which means you don’t necessarily need to install new light fixtures.

If you do want more light in your home, you’ll be pleased to know that LED light fixtures can be installed anywhere, this includes under the upper cabinets in your kitchen and inside your lower cabinets. You can also install recessed LED lights. There’s really no limit to where you can put LED lights.
